Humerus shaft fracture with radial nerve injury

Clinical Details

Clinical and radiological findings:  35-year-old male patient at work accident radial nerve injury, there is ecchymosis and swelling

Preoperative Plan

Planning remarks:  humerus nail , radial nerve exploration and muscle repair

Surgical Discussion

Patient positioning:  supin

Anatomical surgical approach:  lateral approach for radial nerve exploration

Operative remarks: 

A severely displaced fracture occurred after a severe injury. It was thought that the nerve and muscles were almost completely disconnected.

After the exploration, it was observed that the radial nerve was defective. It was repaired with a sural nerve graft. The muscles were primarily repaired.

Postoperative protocol:   vepeau bandage post op. now followed by low hand splint

Orthopaedic implants used:   humerus nail
